My favourite sport is sailing on the beautiful lake known as Coniston Water. Speedboats are not allowed on Coniston and this makes for a lovely relaxing time if you just like pottering aroung.

I enjoy walking and photography so the Lake District is an ideal location. I live 100 miles away so only get to visit at weekends. I've recently purchased a canoe with a view to taking photos from the water. Need to purchase some warm waterproof gear first though.

Hi Dave (Iota), good idea to get some water-level photos, are you going to go to Allen Tarn (aka Octopus Lagoon) and get some photo's there? I have always been nervous of going in there with a sailing dinghy (centreboard and all that!). Make sure you get a waterproof housing for your camera!!

Cheers Dan. Give me a clue. Where is Octopus Lagoon? You are right, my first priority is to get a waterproof container for the camera. I am also going to wait for the weather to get a little warmer. I'm intending to spend Easter up in the Lakes and will check out areas that have easy access for the canoe. Regards, Dave.

Hi Dave, Yes Octopus Lagoon is actually Allen Tarn which is a short way down the River Crake which flows out of the southern end of Coniston. it is a very tranquil place, not a lot of people go there. I have a couple of nice shots done from the bank and will dig them out at the weekend and will post them in the photo section. It has a lot of waterlillies growing there which can foul up rudders and centreboards on sailing boats but I have seen rowing boats and canoes going there without any problems. It is these waterlillies which led to the name Octopus Lagoon when the children in 'Swallows And Amazons' nearly got stuck in there and the plants seemed to 'grab' the oars and rudder!

We caravan and hold rallies for caravanners and tenters, it means we can visit all over UK and of course Europe too. Great way of seeing the countryside I would call it a sport but it means you can also use the sites for doing other sports too, so it's a combination of as many sports as you like
