This summer I plan to climb Ill Crag from Great Moss in the Lake District. According to Trail Magazine March 2004 this is the longest Grade 1 scramble in England. so it has a special appeal. Does anyone have experience with this scramble?

Haven't actually done it myself, but a couple of friends have and they had a great day out. I don't think it's too difficult or exposed, although it's obviously quite long! Walked down Great Moss from Esk Hause last year and it certainly looked inviting. I think the big difficulty is finding the best starting point because it's a big piece of rock!

Thanks Mick, I will be (wild)camping on Great Moss so I save a lot of time in getting at the bottom of Ill Crag. I agree with you that the starting point is the tricky part.
